The Midas “Touch!”
Project Beacon-Midas Canada
National Re-imaging Program 2008-2009

Capabilities

“Having one vendor successfully deliver turnkey service for all elements –survey, design/engineering, manufacture, permits, storage, distribution, freight and installation made our decision to partner with Teksign easy” –Midas Director of Facilities

Objective – Elevate the Midas Brand at the North American retail shop level with the introduction of a new ACM three dimensional exterior logo, vibrant façade colours and a comprehensive in-store Point of Purchase package which included a new backlit menu board system, digitally printed plaques, hanging window banners and poster frames.

Background – With over 1600 independently owned and operated Midas Franchised locations in North America,
following market research Chicago based Midas Inc. undertook the significant task of planning the implementation
of a re-imaging program which would involve every retail shop across the continent.

Vendor Selection – Two signage vendors were selected, one for the US market while Teksign was selected for
Canada’s 168 locations. Teksign’s long standing relationship with Midas, its franchisees and proven ability to
perform (Teksign successfully performed the last Midas brand transformation in the late 90’s) were considerations.
Of key importance was Teksign’s ability to manage the entire signage and display implementation –Coast to Coast!.

“Teksign’s Programworks made the challenge of involving multiple personnel located in different cities and countries a non issue. We simultaneously viewed and approved designs on-line saving time and money”
- J Hodson, Midas Consultant

Critical Success Factors/Challenges:

Plan, Process, Performance

Paramount to Project Beacon’s successful implementation was a well thought out plan. Teksign drew on experience to
map out a strategic plan including-initial Dealer and Corporate Head Office communications, organizing detailed
site surveys, data management, material and design reviews, site specific installations and overall status
tracking/reporting.

ProgramWorks Software –Teksign’s proprietary program management software was instrumental in facilitating
international 24 hour on-line access to all program elements including site specific surveys, photos, design proposals and
approvals as well as the overview of the program’s statusreports.

“As the program evolved and implementation commenced we gathered valuable feedback from our installers which we formulated into new work instructions and or bulletins to or network of installers making the next occurrence less of a burden” - D. Jackson –Teksign Inc.

Compilation of all survey Data – using detailed custom forms surveys were expedited for over 160 retail locations.
All data was loaded into Teksign database and sorted site specific. The survey from a wide variety of store designs
were was analyzed to determine optimum sizes for the economical mass production of the point of purchase
materials.

Site Changes – as expected some sites especially interiors had been modified since our surveys requiring our field
technicians and installers to innovate on location to achieve the desired results and a successful re-imaging. These
innovations were recorded, reviewed by engineering and in many cases mass communicated to our network.

Manufacture, Inventory, Distribution – To manage efficiencies various elements were manufactured in advance, stored and shipped from inventory upon demand. Teksign was able to keep costs low and at the same time provide responsive delivery dates from receipt of dealer orders.

“..once we receive the completed install photos it is very gratifying to see the results knowing what work went into the transformation”- K. Lefebvre, K. Pereira, V. Garcia –Teksign Account Management team.
